Here we go again kids. I hope this helps some of you get an idea of what you want to experience. I wish you the best time whether it is your first time going or returning!
Miami Music Week is the term delegated to this specific week. It use to be called WMC (Winter Music Conference) but, last year (2011) WMC pulled away from having their annual gathering during the last weekend of March. Why? Well, it had become a “Spring Break” type of an event rather than a serious industry only convention. It took itself away from the annual last weekend of March and ironically this year it seems like they have reattached themselves back! I can understand why since so, many patrons were dissatisfied and confused.
Types: If you are a party go-err, first timer in Miami, heard about this amazing event, want to experience it. This is where you need to be. You will meet amazing people; have a great time and memories you will share with your friends & kids one day.
WMC -Winter Music Conference, is in its 27th consecutive year, is one of the most publicized annual music gatherings in the world. A pivotal platform for the advancement of the industry, WMC attracts thousands of artists and music industry delegates from 70 countries and over 100,000 event attendees each year for a concentrated schedule of more than 400 events, parties, seminars and workshops. Established in 1985, WMC is the largest music industry gathering of its kind in the world.
Types: If you are in the music industry this is what you should be attending! DJ’s, Producers, tech geeks, anyone who loves music & wants to network with industry related individuals! This doesn’t mean you won’t be able to enjoy the parties & experience Miami Music Week! It just means you will have an all access pass that will get you into most of them without paying!
UMF – Ultra Music Festival, is a world famous outdoor electronic music festival, ULTRA has won “Best Music Event” by the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) six consecutive years, from 2005 to 2011 (www.ultramuscfestival.com). UMF, is like EDC, Coachella, Electric Zoo, Beyond Wonderland all wrapped together 3-days in Miami. It is a wonderful experience for those who love the thousand plus raver types running around in tutus and colorful outfits.
Types: You have a “Plural account”, your collect “Kandy”, go to every rave on the planet from EDC to White Wonderland, you have more colorful tutus than you can count, cannot wait till EDC Las Vegas so you can dance till the desert sun comes up! This is for you!! You will love the thousands of people and screaming freaks. You like raves than this you will LOVE! Tickets are sold out even VIP. But, where there is a will there is a way! And, I know you will find it ;-)
CLOTHING: Its Miami people, wear white from head to toe you can get away with it. Sexy, short, sleek, wear whatever you want. Gorgeous people, beautiful weather, sexy sexy!! Miami weather can be tricky because you are in south Florida. It is sunny one moment and hailing rain the next. It is tropical weather so don’t be alarmed if it rains for a few minutes. It usually goes away. Bring bathing suits, and don’t forget your night time out fits for the clubs!
HOTELS:
If you plan on going to have the Miami Music Week experience than make sure to stay in South Beach. Any hotel you stay between 1st-24th street you are fine. Ocean Dr. is literally facing the ocean and on street over is Collins Ave. Prices for hotels vary because, of the hotel & the view. In 2010, I stayed at a local boutique hotel with friends. It was so much fun and walking distance everywhere. You walk out of your hotel and across the street to another for a fun day/pool party. In 2011, I stayed at the Fontainebleau Hotel although, it is far from South Beach it is a luxurious hotel with breath taking views.
Since, we had done the partying the first year the second year, I decided to see a different side of Miami.

CLUBS/PARTIES/EVENTS
Every minute of the day/night there is a party. Whether it is a pool/day party, a nightclub, a private event, or a hotel party. You want to kind of pick which ones you want to experience for sure and the others just go with the flow and let the experience take you where it goes.
DAY PARTIES- Make sure to experience these! They are the best you get to hang out by the pool with beautiful views of the beach while a dozen of your favorite DJ’s spin all day long!
NIGHT PARTIES/CLUBS- These are a must so much fun but, like I said make sure to get bottle service if you’re a group of guys or purchase tickets in advance!
A lot of the hot clubs will have these DJ’s spin and it will be worth going! Keep in mind you HAVE to have tickets for these events! They sell out fast and the door guy won’t let you in because you have money or you’re a cute girl. Search online for the events mainly will be on WANTTICKETS.com! The Opium Group is an events company which holds a lot of these parties. If you need table reservations go through them they have the best venues www.theopiumgroup.com .
A great party you should look into is the BEATPORT party thrown by Steve Angello. It is a free party & tons of fun with amazing line-ups.
Another experience you must have is with Swedish House Mafia (SHM). I have gone to their parties back to back and every year it is bigger & better. In 2010, I had the pleasure of experiencing them release the track ONE as my ears went numb and danced the night away at Mansion Nightclub. In 2011, this was the first time they had taken over Miami Beach and literally placed a humongous tent on the beach with a party that last from sunrise to sunset with multiple DJ’s and performers. Also, known as Masquerade Motel this was an Ibiza like unforgettable party.

My last few words make sure your personal belongings are always in a safe or somewhere only you can access. I had all of my money stolen the first year. Do not take anything valuable like a laptop, or precious jewelry.
Purchase a fanny pack and have your ID/money in it around your body at all times.
Give yourself a break and don’t wear your body out. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and don’t be afraid to meet new people. Don’t forget to visit the beach go jet skiing, or pare-sailing it’s so beautiful!!!
And, finally no one can put into words this experience nor can any website you Google. Just go with the flow have fun and take tons of photos!
